I have run into a problem that I hope someone can shed some light on.
I created an Office 2003 package, with a custom MST. I deploy Office via SMS 2003 by using a script to first uninstall some Office 2000 components (eg MSFilter) then run custom setup command to include the MST. On a recent deployment, about 30% of users, when starting Outlook, had this error message: "The operation failed due to registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists please reinstall or contact ....." Our found on these machines portions of Office registry missing. Our fix was to get the registry settings from a good install, and create a .reg file for the broke installs. After merging the missing entries, Office worked fine.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? I had to stop my deployment and I'm supposed to come up with an explanation as to why these users had install issues and will it continue. My problem is that I cannot duplicate the environment that causes the issue! If I manually delete the registry settings on a good install of Office, Office recreates the settings automatically!
Thanks for any help,
Gill
