As a general rule, not unless you have a backup copy or were using Word's versioning feature. There is no hidden feature that does this behind the scenes. Sometimes, if you're careful, you can find all or part of the overwritten document's contents lurking in .tmp files, or if you use a hard disk editor, you might be able to find the contents that way. But, once a document has been overwritten, unless you have a backup copy or earlier versions saved within the same file (File - Versions), there is no surefire way to recover the lost document.
