Export Access with Chinese Characters to Hong Kong MYOB
"Steve" <google[ at ]coxcomputers.annabay.net> 08.06.2006 04:16:55
I need to (regularly) translate up to 10,000 product names from English
to Chinese, then import the Chinese names into the Hong Kong version of
MYOB (popular accounting package). Note you can (apparently) type the
chinese characters straight into MYOB and have them appear correctly on
subsequent invoices.

I have set up tables in Access to do the conversion and they are
working beautifully. I can get the characters to appear properly in
Access and in a table copied to Excel from Access.

However when I export a delimited txt file from Access then import it
into MYOB, I get garbage characters. For example
90°弯头 短套管 20X2.5 SDR11 ISO S-5 注塑成型的 对焊熔接
PPR 灰色 becomes
9 0 ° /_4Y íwWY¡{ 2 0 X 2 . 5 S D R 1 1 I S O S - 5

Any asistance would be much appreciated

Hi Steve,

It sounds as if your versions of MYOB and Office are using different
encodings (code pages). When you export the data from Access to the text
file, click the Advanced button in the export wizard and select the
appropriate encoding from the list (it may take a bit of trial and error
before you get the right one).
