Can't Open mdb
"Tom Lake" <tlake[ at ]twcny.rr.com> 09.06.2006 01:09:40
When anyone else is using an mdb file, I can't open it at all even to
just browse a table. All our computers have Access set for no
locking and tried record-level locks as opposed to page locking. I've
never had this problem before even though I've been using
Access since 1.0. Can anyone tell me what to check for? TIA

Has the other user opened it in exclusive mode? Do you get an error
messages?

No, all users have shared mode on. There is no error message, the hourglass
appears then disappears immediately with no other activity. As soon as
the other users are out of the program, I can open it normally.

I found a way around it although I don't know why. I originally had a
shortcut
to the mdb file on my desktop. The Windows association took care of knowing
to open Access when I clicked on the shortcut. I changed the shortcut to
run
MSACCESS.EXE mdbname and now it works. I don't know why but I'm happy.
Thanks to all who responded!

I'm having the same problem, but the shortcut with MSACCESS.EXE mdbname
didn't work, do you have another idea.

What exactly did you use in the shortcut?

Assuming that there are spaces in the path, you need to have quotes around
the path.

Sorry, it worked fine, running from the shortcut, but still not running from
the link directly.

Thanks...
