Cross-Reference
Debra Ann 07.06.2006 14:15:02
I have a user who is trying to cross-reference table and figure captions that
exist in a template I created. The user created a bunch of tables in the
main portion of the document and in the appendix portion of the document.
The following captions exist:

Table (already exists with Microsoft)
Table_Appendix (created)
Figure (already exists with Microsoft)
Figure_Appendix (created)

When I open the document on my system, I see all of these listed in the
popup box for Insert > Reference > Cross-Reference. However, when I look at
the same document on his system, I only see the microsoft captions.

Any guesses?

Custom figure labels, unfortunately, are stored in the Registry of a given
machine, not in templates. You could try sending the appropriate Registry
keys to the user.

Actually, I should have corrected myself when I used the word "template".
They are actually Word files (.doc) with embedded macros ... not templates
(.dot).

This works fine for 98% of the people but there are 2% that have this issue
with not being able to see them.

The answer remains the same; the custom figure labels are stored in YOUR
Registry; they will not be available to users unless you distribute the
relevant Registry keys.

Suzanne,

They are using a toolbar button I created that creates the Table_Appendix
Captions. Once they have used this button to create the caption for the
table, they later use the cross-reference to reference the caption number.
Wouldn't the toolbar button place the information in their registry?

It should, yes, provided they have write permission to their Registry.

I guess you could ask them whether they are able to run the Regedit command
