Trim Trailing Spaces
Norman Zhang <norman.zhang[ at ]gmail.com> 08.06.2006 18:43:49
Hi,

I have 2 Q's.

1. Does Word 2002 support trimming trailing spaces?
2. Does Word 2002 support conversation of double spaces to single space.
(e.g., 2 spaces after period to 1 space)

Regards,
Norman Zhang

Both of these are things you can do with Edit > Replace. There isn't any
separate function besides that.

You probably want to look into the use of wildcards in the Replace dialog.
See http://www.gmayor.com/replace_using_wildcards.htm.

To trim both leading and trailing spaces in a paragraph, select
the paragraph, change the paragraph alignment to centered, and
then change the alignment back to left- or full-justified.

The spaces still affect how words fill each line. It was hoping Word
2002 has that feature as included in many low-end text editors.

Leading spaces are extra spaces at the beginning of a paragraph.
Trailing spaces are extra spaces at the end of a paragraph. I
think you must be talking about extra spaces in the middle of a
paragraph, in which case you can use Find and Replace to
repeatedly search for two spaces and replace with one space until
all of the extra spaces are gone.

I see your point. Thanks.
