sharing devices
"Bob L." <RobertLally[ at ]gmail.com> 23.05.2006 21:25:46
Hi:

I have PC#1 with windows XP, PC#2 with Windows 98 and laptop with windows XP
Pro. PC#1 currently is connected to the net via ethernet cable to cable
modem.

I want to network all 3 together wirelessly and also share the printer on
PC#1 with the other 2 and all three share hard drives.

If I buy a wireless hub and wireless devices for PC#1, PC#2 and the laptop
how would I share the printer and hard drives?

Thank you very much.

Bob

Bob,

Don't get a wireless hub, get a wireless router.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/01/proper-network-design.html#Router

Once you get all 3 computers physically connected (or WiFi connected) to the
router, run the Network Setup Wizard on both Windows XP computers. Choose
This computer connects to the Internet through another computer on my network or
through a residential gateway.
The router will be the residential gateway.

Let the wizard, run on either XP computer, create a floppy (or USB drive) with
the necessary setup programs for the Windows 98 computer. Or create the same
manually. See the above article.

Once you get each computer properly setup for file sharing, then you have to
setup authentication / authorisation on each computer.
