I am trying to create a data access page for a project I'm working on. I'm on a winxp machine with Access 2004 and MS SQL Server Desktop Engine 8 (SP3).
When I create the page, it works fine. I can save it to my web server - it works fine and I can access the data from any web browser (usually). As long as I don't leave "design mode" I can continue to modify and save the data access page, but as soon as I leave I'm locked out of making any changes. When I try to open the page in design mode, I get an error message:
"Cannot find the database or some database objects that this page refers to. Update the connection information of the page or fix the references to the missing database objects"
Fine. Strange, since I didn't change anything, but fine. So now I open the page connection properties and re-enter the username and password (I'm using specific user, not integrated security). I click the "Test Connection" button, and get a "Test Connection Succeeded" message. OK. I've even tried allowing it to save the password, which I don't really want to do.
Now I click on the "refresh field list" button and get an error message!
"Microsoft Access is unable to connect to the data source specified in the connection string of this page."
As long as I don't save at this point, the original page will continue to work fine, but saving will break everything and I'll have to start over from scratch.
I've also seen that sometimes these pages will only work on the local machine, other times from any machine on the network. When that happens, I get an error "Microsoft Office web components could not connect to the server MYSERVER"
Any ideas on why these things are happening?
