Disappearing Custom Toolbar lots of questions 01.03.2006 23:41:27 Your assistance with an ongoing problem is greatly appreciated... Have 3 simple macros stored in a Word2003 template. Created and attached the macros to a small toolbar in the template. Macros "run" in Editor. Macros run from toolbar....so far - no problems. I emailed this "template" to the requesting employee for review. When employee opened the template from Outlook, the toolbar was there, also listed in View-Toolbars. When saved from Outlook to employees hard drive and opened, toolbar is there as well as listed in the View-Toolbars dropdown list.....macros run great from both instances....this employee is at another facility and has total access to the companies large network. Now - file is moved to master folder on company network where the employees have 'rights' to access the templates. When customer does test run and accesses the template via: File-New and selects template, the file opens but the toolbar is absent. When the employee checks the View-Toolbars menu - the toolbar is missing from the list. While on the phone together, we then walked thru the process of opening the template at the same time. My file opened with the toolbar, his did not. Is this a Word issue, me issue, or an IT issue? It would sure help clear things up with a number of similar templates...Can this information be found on the MVP site?

Tools > Templates and Add-Ins... Is the template stored in either the designated user templates folder or workgroup templates folder? If not, the macros may be blocked by macro security without notice. Even if it is in one of these folders, macros will be blocked unless the security option to trust installed templates and addins is checked. This deals with the macros, but I don't think it would strip out toolbars. The easiest way I can think of to get this to happen is to create a new document based on your template, save that as a template, and then create a new document based on the new template. Re: Disappearing Custom Toolbar lots of questions 02.03.2006 16:53:29 Charles - thank you for responding.....to answer some of your questions All company electronic forms (templates) are stored in a designated user templates folder on the network. We have added tabs to Templates and Add Ins where the employees access the templates. I had the employee check his Word security settings and it was set to medium, which asks whether to enable or disable macros, he selected enable to open the file. The macro code is there, its just that the toolbar and View-Toolbars listing are gone when he opens a template from the network source. I know that 2003 has a lot more 'security' than the 2000 we were using prior to a recent pushout. You mention: "macros will be blocked unless the security option to trust installed templates and addins is checked." Where is this setting? All templates are password protected by my department before being uploaded to the network folder. The curious thing is than when emailed all is well, and when he re-saves the template to a document on his hard drive, everythiing is still good. Could this be some security setting other than from within Word? regards...
