Yes, Jason:
You can do this with field-based numbering. You cannot do it with style-based numbering.
Look up LISTNUM fields in the Help. These will do what you want. Read the bit about the "Level" carefully: you need to ensure that BOTH style B and Style C are "level 2" because that's how ListNum knows what to do.
