The default language for Word is English. When I change the language to Spanish, Word will unexpected close--not even an error message will come up--it just disappears.
If I open any document with Spanish language as part of it, the document will automatically close within 10 seconds.
If I start a new document, write in English, and then write something in Spanish, the document will automatically close and be lost.
I've tried to reinstall and repair the program, but it does absolutely nothing. Is this a problem with the program, or could this be some type of wierd virus? Your prompt response would be greatly appreciated.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?U3RlcGhhbmll?=,

OK. If you hold down CTRL while starting Word, does the problem persist, or does it go away?
I get the feeling that there may be a problem in the Spanish spelling engine (dll). If this is the case, the problem will NOT go away, but it's important to rule out something that's been done to the Word configuration since installation.
If the problem does persist, search for the *.lex files on your machine. That should bring you to the general proofing folders. Do you see files such as MSGR3ES.LEX (Spanish grammar) MSHY3ES.LEX (Spanish hyphenation) MSSP3ES.LEX (Spanish spelling) MSTH3ES.LEX (Spanish thesaurus)
Check for similarly named DLL (with ES in the name) and note them. Plus, the grammar DLL will probably be in a sub-folder (3082).
Now go to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and start the Office setup in "Change" mode (as opposed to remove). choose a "customization" type of setup, so that you come into the tree structure with the various components. You want one of the two last groups, that have to do with Office stuff. Under one of these you should find the Proofing tools. Set all the Spanish tools to REMOVE them (Not available). Have set up run.
This should remove the DLLs from the installation - check the folder(s) to make sure they're gone.
Start Word and see whether you can 1. open a Spanish language document and 2. Format text in Spanish without Word crashing. (It should work, but you won't have any spell check. We're just making sure this does work.)
If everything is OK, go back to Add Remove programs, choose the same type of setup, and re-install the Spanish proofing tools. If the DLLs previously on your system were damaged, and the ones on the CD intact, this should solve the problem (assuming my guess as to the cause is correct).
