ODBC Wizard Problem
John Lane 25.10.2005 12:18:02
I’ve run into an issue with a user trying to make an ODBC connection to an
SQL Server database and I have no clue as to why this one thing happens (or
more precisely doesn’t happen). She logs on to her PC with her Id. She can
make a connection to a database on one server with no problem. However when
she tries to make a connection to a similar databse on another server she
gets an error message saying she can't connect to the default database, and
the wizard has skipped completely the "pick a database" screen. If I log on
the PC with my Id it works. I have a suspicion it has to do with permissions
on the database, but I really don’t know. Anyone got any idea what’s wrong?
Thanks.

OK, I figured out how to get around the ODBC problem but I still don’t know
why it’s happening. I suspect some kind of ID and/or permission problem, but
anyway: If I uncheck the “Connect to SQL Server to obtain…” check box it
brings up the screen to select a database and I can type in (not select from
a drop down) the database name and it works. Got any idea what’s going on?
