Revisions tracking - accept/reject functionality for HTML document
Sergei 31.01.2006 17:13:26
Hi there,

Not sure of the best location for this question but since it is likely an
intermediary type of inquiry, I’ll post it here.

Does anybody have any experience with track changes functionality for HTML
documents?

What we are trying to do is to provide the functionality to the users so
that they can view what changes have been made to different parts of textual
content within HTML/XML files (e.g. MS Word supports this with its documents).

There are 2 approaches:
1. To compare 2 versions of the documents (similar functionality is inside
MS Word, Tools-> Track Changes - > Compare documents).
2. To track changes directly inside the document (MS Word, see Tools-> Track
Changes)
We tested many components but what we found is that some of them can compare
versions of HTML (or XML) documents i.e. Approach 1, but do not provide
Accept or Reject functionality i.e. Approach 2, which is functionality that
we really need.

We have tried developing our own functionality, but have run into problems,
and I would be most interested if anybody has any experience here.

Alternatively, does anybody know how to use MS Word 2003 for this aim?
Or, and it's the last chance, - does anybody know of any company that sells
such a component providing API for track changes that we could integrate into
our solution – XHTML, JavaScript, ASP / ASP.NET at front end and SQL Server
at the back end.

Many thanks,
Sergei
