Without being able to see exactly what's on screen vs what prints, it sounds like you may have printer driver problems or it's possible your document may be corrupt.
Does the problem occur when you print to any printer or only one specific printer? If you only have the one printer, have you tried reinstalling the printer drivers?
As for troubleshooting whether your document is corrupt:
You're on the right track in trying to copy/paste the contents to another document but to eliminate any corrupt numbering/formatting etc you'll need to copy and then *paste unformatted* (Edit>Paste Special>Unformatted Text [or Unformatted Unicode Text]). Paste unformatted strips out any formatting from the content to be pasted and assigns it whatever style is applied to the insertion point. So if you paste unformatted into a new empty document where the insertion point is in a Normal style paragraph all the copied material will have Normal style applied. You lose all footnotes/endnotes/images/charts/etc etc, any automatic numbering will become manual, bullets will be lost or assigned different characters and you'll need to reapply your styles throughout, but at least you'll know that you're starting with a clean slate.
Are you using numbering styles or are you using Bullets and Numbering to apply outline/list numbering and bullets? If you're using Bullets and Numbering you should reset the List Gallery panels to their defaults before using them or customizing them (click on each panel then if the Reset button is enabled, click it). BTW - the Bullets and Numbering list gallery is IMHO unreliable.
You can avoid a lot of problems in future by using numbering styles that have named list templates attached. For some additional information you can take a look at this thread (you might need to manually remove the wrapping from the link if the link doesn't work):
