I'm in "DAO Hell"; Please Help Vynce 31.01.2006 13:42:14 I recently installed an ATI All-In-Wonder Pro 9800 Video Card which I believe installed something called "DAO". A failed driver update corrupted the DAO (Data Access Objects?) so that it cannot be uninstalled from Add/Remove Programs. This led to a secondary problem in Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 so that I can no longer burn CD/DVD discs. It appears "DAO" also stands for "Disc at Once" which is the method I use to burn discs (?!). Anyway, any attempt to use Roxio causes the Windows Installer to launch and complain that it cannot locate the DAO.msi file from its previous locale. The Installer will NOT stop until Task Manger is used to "End Task". So menacing did all this become, I removed the All-in-Wonder card and traded it away. I also had to physically remove my DVD burner and install it into my secondary PC so that I could resume CD/DVD writing, replacing it with a CDRW. Nonetheless, I still cannot burn a simple CD or anything else on my primary PC due to the corrupt installation of "DAO". Can someone PLEASE tell me how on earth one removes, reinstalls, or whatever must be done to return my system to quiescense before I go madd! Thanking any kind soul in advance. V

I think that the use of the acronym is irrelevant in this case. The DAO associated with Access's Data Access Objects comes from dao360.dll (Access 2000 and newer) or dao350.dll (Access 97), usually located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO. You could try reregistering them using regsvr32.exe and see if that helps, but as I imply above, I doubt it will. I did learn from tedious research that the All-in-Wonder PVCR function in the Multimedia Control System creates a "Library" for storage of all video clips recorded. It is this library which utilizes DAO. The support folks at ATI like to refer the user back to Microsoft but clicking the information buttton in Add/Remove Programs clearly shows that the ATI software bundle installed DAO. I never heard of it previously. I don't even think my Office System 2003 installation included it, as only Word, Outlook, Publisher & Excel are installed. As I am rid of the All-in-Wonder card, the only issue remaining (as far as I can tell) is the inability to record CD/DVD's which is very problematic for me. I hope I can recover without a format/reinstall because my Windows installation is otherwise lean and mean . . .
